I am inspired and excited by materials and experimentation. An old French birdcage; newspaper clippings; earth oxides used as dyes, then as encaustic pigments; metal clay and beads—any of these will lead me to art making. I credit the fact that I have been an art teacher for years and have been fortunate to teach a variety of media making it possible for me to explore these materials. I am especially attracted to textures and layers and the materials I can use to create both. Currently, I am working in clay and in encaustic and experimenting in using wax as a surface decoration for clay as I continue to work with printmaking and fiber. That doesn't keep me from photography, watercolor and botanical illustration.
Creating is both intuitive and contemplative for me.
